Comfortable temperatures start with working air conditioning
Reduced cooling, an unpleasant smell from the vents or a system behaving differently? We help you find the appropriate service for your motorhome.
At Milster & Bahls GmbH, we start by identifying the system and discussing what you have noticed. This helps us establish which checks are useful and what work is needed. Depending on the system and the agreed scope, servicing may include function checks, refrigerant servicing and a cabin filter inspection.
When you enquire, please specify whether the issue concerns the cab air conditioning or a separate unit in the living area. These systems differ, as do their maintenance and repair requirements.

Cab or living area?
A brief description of your air conditioning system helps us handle your enquiry. A caravan air conditioning unit, for example, differs from the system fitted in a motorhome's cab.
Base vehicle air conditioning
For cab air conditioning, the focus is on cooling performance and the associated ventilation. Reduced cooling, weak airflow and unusual smells can have different causes.
Tell us the base vehicle model, year and symptoms. We establish which services are possible and necessary based on the system and its condition.
Separate habitation air conditioning
A roof-mounted or under-bench air conditioner in a motorhome or caravan is a separate appliance. Standard servicing for the base vehicle's air conditioning does not automatically apply to it.
Provide the manufacturer, model and a description of the problem. We check beforehand whether we can undertake the requested work or whether a specialist is needed.
What has changed?
For an initial assessment, knowing when a problem occurs is as useful as knowing what it is. Does it happen immediately after switching on, after a longer drive or only occasionally? Is there enough airflow, but the air remains too warm?
Mention any new noises or smells when you enquire. Describe the conditions in which they occur as clearly as possible so we can prepare the inspection more effectively.
Changes worth mentioning
Reduced cooling: The system no longer reaches the desired temperature or its cooling performance varies noticeably.
Weak airflow: Little air reaches the cab even though the ventilation is switched on.
Unpleasant smells: You notice an unusual odour when starting the system or during use.
Unusual behaviour: New noises, repeated shutdowns or other changes occur.
What air conditioning servicing can include
The scope depends on your system and the findings of the inspection. Not every enquiry requires all the following services.
Operation & cooling
We check the reported issue and review your observations. This helps establish whether routine servicing is appropriate or further fault diagnosis is needed.
Refrigerant servicing
Whether refrigerant servicing is appropriate and compatible with our equipment depends partly on the system and its specified refrigerant. We agree on the work before proceeding.
Cabin filter
The cabin or pollen filter is considered according to the equipment fitted. If replacement is needed, we discuss it as part of the agreed service scope.
Cleaning & odours
For unusual smells, we assess whether cleaning or disinfecting the relevant areas would be useful. The cause matters: treatment does not replace a necessary repair.
A refrigerant top-up is not always the answer
Reduced cooling does not automatically mean the system simply needs more refrigerant. We base the service on the actual findings. If the problem has returned after previous servicing, please tell us. This helps us establish whether additional diagnosis is needed.
Plan your air conditioning service early
If you notice changes before a longer journey, enquire about an appointment in good time. This allows more flexibility if additional work or parts are needed beyond the initial service.
Tell us your planned departure date. We will discuss the available timing and possible scope of work. Completion by a particular date needs to be agreed in advance.
Mention air conditioning when booking maintenance
If a workshop visit is already due, you can request air conditioning servicing at the same time. We will check whether the work can be scheduled together.
Please do not assume that a full air conditioning service is automatically included in every inspection. The services you require are agreed separately.

Do you service air conditioning on every motorhome?
Please provide the base vehicle model, year and details of the affected system. We establish whether we can carry out the requested work based on the system, refrigerant required and scope of service.
Can I enquire about a caravan roof air conditioner?
Yes. Tell us the air conditioner's manufacturer and model and describe the problem. We check in advance which services we can offer for that particular unit.
How often does air conditioning need servicing?
Follow the guidance for your vehicle or air conditioning unit. A single interval does not suit every system. If cooling performance changes or you notice odours or other issues, request a check.
Is refrigerant added at every appointment?
No. The work depends on the system's condition and the agreed service. Reduced cooling alone is not enough to conclude that adding refrigerant is the appropriate solution.
Is disinfection always included?
The service scope is agreed individually. Whether cleaning or disinfection is useful depends on the system and the issues identified. It is not automatically included with every enquiry.
Will unpleasant smells be removed permanently?
Permanent removal cannot be guaranteed in every case. It depends on the source of the odour and the measures required. An assessment helps identify an appropriate treatment.
Is the pollen filter replaced automatically?
Replacement depends on the equipment fitted, filter condition, maintenance guidance and agreed service scope. We discuss whether it should be included in your appointment.
How much does air conditioning servicing cost?
Costs depend on the system and the services required, such as diagnosis, refrigerant servicing, filter replacement or cleaning. We discuss how costs will be calculated before you authorise the work. Additional repairs are agreed separately.
Can I wait while the service is carried out?
Please mention this when arranging your appointment. Whether waiting on site is practical depends on the planned work and whether further diagnosis becomes necessary.
What information should I include in my enquiry?
Include the model, year, type of air conditioning and a description of the problem. For a separate habitation unit, also provide its manufacturer and model. Add your preferred appointment date and any planned departure date.
